Indian Summer in Central Iowa

What a gorgeous October day in central Iowa!

I made sure to leave work in time to catch a little sun on my bare skin.

The place I usually go is public land where hunting is allowed. So I went elsewhere, to a small canoe launch area on the Skunk River. With no hunters and with the water too low for canoeing or even fishing, I felt safe from unfriendly encounters.

The only place where the sun still reached the sand was pretty close to the parking area and the road. Some athletes were running up and down the road, and from where I was lying I could occasionally catch glimpses of their heads between the trees. If any of them had left the road and peered down at the river, I would have been busted. But nobody did ... darn it!
